Album Review: Aamra Nuton Jobaneri Doot - Bhoomi

I heard a song from this album over Radio Mirchi on its Sunday broadcast Geetanjali and liked it instantly and decided to get it. yesterday while commuting through Esplanade i stopped by Symphony to pick it up. the first song "Premero Joare" was really awesome. actually i felt that this was the best track and such a spirited track while driving over park street flyover gave me the idea that it was after all a good buy. Next was "Amra Nuton Jobaneri Doot", the title track. This was also very good and reminded of our chorus in school during Poila Boishakh (Bengali New Year). Its sung in chorus. What i would have really liked is since Bhoomi has included Lopamudra in this album they should have included her in this track. I like the flamboyancy in her voice which is also the spirit of this song. "Khoro Bayu Boye" was a little disappointing. Rabindrasangeet is associated with certain musical instruments, but it does not mean that the younger generation cannot interpret its music in their own way. But it also does not mean that the background score of a Tagore song will sound like American Country Music. "Purano Sei Diner Kotha" and "Akash Bhora Surjo Tara" were most chagrin. "Aaj Jyotsna Raate" captured the true sense of shorn singing by Surojit. Background score at its minimum really made the singing a pleasure to hear. Although some pauses were not so much appreciated by my father. "Boro Asha" could have been better if instead of duet it was solo. "Bhenge Mor Ghorer Chaabi" and "Neel Digonte" were appreciable. The last track "Aguner Poroshmoni" was good but the sound of Conch did not actually blend well.

In the end i would like to say that you could try it as a Bhoomi album and not have the prejudiced point of view that its a hard core Tagore Song collection so it will have those touches. After Bishwabharati lost its copyright a lot of people are trying to popularize Tagore in their own way and Bhoomi's attemp is laudable.I am not a Rabindrasangeet expert but the views expressed are totaly my personal opinion. Everyone else is welcome to express their own.
